Character Creation

Important Questions:

  • Shaping influences that led to chosen class
  • General character disposition attitude and alignment
  • Everyone has flaws or limitations, whats yours
  • Level of general world knowledge, ever heard of Europe, etc
  • Attitude towards:
    • The Coalition
    • D-Bees
    • Psychics and Mages
    • Other nations/states (NGR, Free Quebec, Kingsdale, Tolkeen, etc)
  • What languages do you speak and why
  • Literate?
  • Any run-ins with the Supernatural?
  • Recent history
  • current goals
  • long term hopes

You will need the Character Sheet in order to create your character. It has pages for ability scores and a level tracker. Feel free to ask questions.

Character Creation Basics:

Step One: Design your stats using the 28 point buy method, choosing no more than one score below 10. Use the provided worksheet on sheet one of the character sheet excel document, placing scores in rows C2-C7, place ability modifiers in rows E2-E7. These will appear in the ability score fields on the character sheet tab, which are not editable.

Step Two: View Classes and choose a class. An R.C.C. is also a race, if you choose an O.O.C. then next choose a race. Any race from D&D 3.0 3.5 or 4E s usually an easy transfer, see DM for details.

Step Three: Roll your starting P.P.E. fill in the character sheet with which skills you are training, hit points and your equipment. Go to sheet three in the excel character sheet and choose your starting feat(s) and talent(s).

O.O.C. & R.C.C. Features

NOTE: Some players accostimed to more of the D&D style of class balance may read the following classes and say to themselves ”hey, these classes don’t exaclty look balanced, one seems like it has more on another in a lot of respects”. Well that is true, the original Rifts wasnt balanced, it wasnt important to the game or system to be so, and I have tried to make these classes true to what they represented in Rifts, and not the balance that the system is based on.


Rifts Humans: +2 to Any one Ability; +2 to two skills of choice; One extra feat and one extra trained skill at 1st level, +1 to Fort, Reflex & Will. Rifts Earth Mutation: +2 to another Ability OR minor psionics (choose 2 At Will, 1 Encounter, and 1 Daily major psionic power, suffer a -2 to Will defense, and you are never able to choose the Psionic Ability feat).

True Atlanteans: +2 INT, +2 DEX; +2 History and +2 Insight; Starts with Psionic Ability Feat, Magical Ability Feat, and the Marks of Heritage; (Tattoo Magic – Heart Pierced by a Wooden Stake – Immune to Vampire Mind Control and Being Turned into a Vampire & A Flaming Weapon – Which Creates a Flaming Sword or Dagger (Standard Action), either incarnation will inflict 2D8 fire damage + STR); +1d8 P.P.E. at character creation.

D&D 4e Races: Can use any D&D 4e races, although certain races may be excluded from certain classes. No Half Orc Mind Melters for ex.

Palladium Races Totally great please, am all for it, Rahu-Men Cyber Knights to Changeling Rogue Scholar to Kobold Operators. I like unique concepts. We can work out bonuses and abilities for each as needed.

Star Wars Saga Edition Races: Most transfer perfectly to Rifts Earth.

Anywhere else The real beauty of Rifts is that we can work in anyone. Middle Earth races, the Deryni from Katherine Kurtz, Klingon, etc.

R.C.C. Classes: The classs below of Borg, Dragon, and Psi-Stalker are racial classes, and represent both class and race.


Not every Rifts class is represented obviously, I am willing to create whatever Rifts (or anything else) class that you will enjoy playing, just let me know.

Borg: Starts with +4 STR, +4 CON, +2 DEX, -4 CHA, -2 WIS, +2 Speed, +2 Endurance, +2 Intimidate, -4 Stealth, +10 HP at levels 1,11 and 21. Combat Challenge, Modular Bionic Attachments, Spatial Presence, Immune to many effects;

City Rat: First Strike; Lucky; Rat Weapon Talent; Sneak Attack;

Crazy: +1 Str, +3 Dex, +1 Con, -2 Int, +1 Speed, +2 Acrobatics, +2 Insight, +4 Perception, +8 HP at levels 1,11 and 21, Enhanced Super Senses; Enhanced Healing and Bio-regeneration; Minor Psionics; Immune to fear effects; Insanity (Frenzy, Power by Association or Multiple Personalities at start); starts with Die Hard and Duck & Cover feats.

Cyber-Knight: Mark target; Minor Psionics, Psi-Sword; Cyber-Armor; Lay on hands; Type A Personality;

Dragon:+2 to all stats; +2 to Arcana, +2 to Psi-Craft; Move speed 6, Fly Speed 10; Metamorph; Teleport; Dragon Breath; Natural Armor; Natural Weapons; See the Invisible; Major Psionic & Magic User.

Glitter Boy: Aura of Fearlessness; Armored Warrior; Demolitions Expert; Evasive Action. Starts with a ‘Like New’ Glitter Boy suit.

Juicer: +2 Str, +2 Con, +2 Dex, +2 Speed, +2 Athletics, +2 Intimidate, +2 on Saving Throws, +12 HP at levels 1,11 and 21, Drug Fueled; Live Fast Die Young; Physical Perfection; Starts with Die-Hard and Two Weapon Style feats.

Line Walker: Innate Spell Ability; Magical Ability; Ley Line Acuity; Ley Line Augmentation; Magic and Being in the Flow;

Mind Melter: Super Psionic; Psionic Focus; Spirit Control Mind’s Torment;
